Soho

An acronym for “SOuth of HOuston,” SoHo is bordered on the south by Canal Street, the north by Houston Street, the east by Broadway, and the west by 6th Avenue. The area bridges the gap between the new and the old in a neighborhood relished for its fine restaurants, bars, theaters, world-famous green market, upscale boutique shops and art galleries. One of the most expensive and chic neighborhoods in Manhattan, this once-Bohemian area lived a largely industrial life for most of the 20th century. After a push for transformation of the neighborhood’s countless vacant warehouses into residential lofts in the 1980’s, storefront galleries lead along the path of change. Soon, the artists were joined by those seeking to live downtown in expansive lofts brimming with natural light and charm. Nowadays, SoHo is home to famous actors and runway models, and includes high-end retail, artist studios, exquisite galleries, and fine eateries. Still, the area retains the old-world charm through its cobblestone streets and unforgettable architecture. If you’re looking for a perfect spot to spot an incognito celebrity, you will find it here.
