Inwood is defined by rivers on three of its sides – Harlem River to the north and east, and the Hudson River to the west. Inwood owes a certain sense of detachment from Manhattan to its interruption of the street grid so typical of the island. With Broadway its main thoroughfare, Inwood’s main shopping centers line Dyckman and West 207th Streets.
